Maine Newborn Photographer // When To Book Your Newborn Session

I often get asked a lot of questions regarding newborn sessions, but the most common question is when is the best time to book these sessions? I mean, your due date is just an educated guess as to when your new little one will arrive. I always tell my clients, that they can call me as soon as they know that they have a viable pregnancy (anytime after that 12 week scan). The session it self should happen 5-21 days after your baby’s arrival. I take all of that into consideration and block a few days around your little guy’s or gal’s due date. That way we have so options. It’s not an exact science, but it has worked for me for years!

After that, we jump on the phone for the very first consult! This is just when the idea of your new baby starts to become very real! I love talking to parents at this point! We discuss all the fun props and backdrops. It’s not until after you know if you are having a boy or girl (if you want to find out the gender), that we talk wardrobe. Most of my props and backdrops are very rustic and neutral, so typically the clothes are really the only thing that will change and it still won’t change by much. Unless, of course, you request otherwise!

I have obviously recieved that panic stricken phone call from the expectant mother that she is being induced the next day and she still hasn’t secured a photographer! I totally get it! Especially if its not your first baby, life is super busy! I make every attempt to work short notice bookings into my schedule. I never want someone to miss out on newborn pictures. The window is so small for these photo sessions and it’s so important. 

Bottom line is, the sooner the better, but, hey, I’m human too and life gets busy. I do my best to make sure that I can fit everyone in!
