Cornish Maine Wedding Photographer // Britnee & Nolan Engagement Session // Fort Williams
Let me first start by saying that I love shooting at Fort Williams! It literally has a little bit of everything from the old forts to woods and fields and, of course, the ocean. It is one of the most popular places that my couples choose to shoot at and for good reason! And, as a bonus, Britnee and Nolan’s session also started off as cloudy but ended with the most beautiful golden hour lighting! This just added to the variety of backdrops that Fort Williams has to offer.
Britnee and Nolan first met on Tinder in early 2018. Britnee had to be convinced by a friend to meet Nolan since she was not a huge fan of online dating. Good thing she did!
They got engaged on 5/3/21. They had been staying with their friends in Massachusetts and decided to go hiking at Maudslay State Park. Nolan had asked Britnee if she wanted to change into regular clothes, but she opted to stay in her pajamas instead, which consisted of an oversized Ozzy Osbourne t-shirt and some sweat pants. While hiking, they had taken a break by a river and that’s when Nolan turned to Britnee and said, “ I have a question…” Britnee then realized what was happening and cried a lot before saying yes! Even though it was hard for her to get that one simple word out, it was the easiest question for her to answer since she had known early on in their relationship that Nolan was the one!
For their engagement session, we started at the fort. I love starting here because its not what my couples expect and it’s always one of my favorite shots! We got a couple of pictures out of the way as a form of warm up and then it was off to the children’s garden. The garden always looks great regardless of time of year. I let Britnee and Nolan laugh and interact with one another while I snapped away.
I also utilize the brick buildings in the outskirts of the park, so that’s where we went next. I used the building to create some leading lines for visual interest and, in my head, I knew that these would make some pretty amazing black and whites to add to their gallery!
Britnee and Nolan had brought a bottle of wine along to get some pictures. I had them hang out picnic style on a blanket and ghetto drink straight from the bottle. Besides, drinking from the bottle is way more fun than drinking from glasses.
Then the sun came out and when I say it came out, it was crazy. For the second half of their session, I got the best golden hour lighting. It was perfect. I even had Britnee and Nolan stand beside of a tree to give them a little bit of shade because the light was so overpowering. It gave them both the most perfect little halo of light around them. The pictures there were stunning!
Then we finished by the beach, because if you go for the beach for engagement pictures, you actually have to bring the couple to the beach. The tide was super high so there wasn’t much of a beach left, but we worked with what we had and did some walking pictures on the rocks. Overall, it was everything that I could ask of an engagement session, it was really perfect!
