Cornish, Maine Newborn Photographer // The Difference Between Posed Newborn & Lifestyle Newborn Sessions

As a newborn photographer, I am often asked about the differences between a lifestyle newborn session and a posed newborn session. While both types of sessions have their own unique benefits, they offer very different experiences and results. So, I will explain the differences between a lifestyle newborn session and a posed newborn session, and why I offer both.

A posed newborn session is a traditional style of newborn photography that involves placing the baby in a variety of poses and using props and accessories to create beautiful and artistic images. I feel like I can be more creative with these and love to set up different sets. These sessions are done in my studio and can take 2-3 hours to complete. The focus is on creating beautiful images of the baby, with little or no interaction with the parents or family members.

On the other hand, a lifestyle newborn session is a more relaxed and natural style of newborn photography that captures the baby in a more candid and natural way. These sessions are also done in my studio and the focus is on capturing the family's connection and lifestyle. I will often capture images of the baby in the family's arms. I use my lifestyle sets to capture these moments.

As a photographer, I offer both types of sessions because I believe that both styles have their own unique benefits. A posed newborn session is great for creating beautiful portraits of the baby that will be cherished for years to come. The images are often very artistic and can be used for wall art or albums. Parents often love these types of sessions because they are able to capture the baby in a way that they may not be able to do on their own.

However, I also believe that it is important to offer lifestyle newborn sessions because they capture the family's connection and lifestyle in a way that posed sessions cannot. Lifestyle sessions are a great way to capture the family's love and connection with the baby, and they often result in very natural and candid images that are perfect for displaying in the home.

Both a lifestyle newborn session and a posed newborn session have their own unique benefits. While it is important to offer creative portraiture of just the baby in the studio, it is also important to offer portraits of the family in a lifestyle setting to show connection. As a photographer, I offer both types of sessions to ensure that my clients have a variety of images to choose from and can capture their memories in a way that is meaningful to them.
