Cornish Maine Wedding Photographer // The Posed/Unposed Wedding Formals
One of the most rewarding aspects of my wedding work is creating authentic, candid, and emotional pictures that truly reflect the love and connection between my couples.
When it comes to formal portraits, I have found that keeping the moments mostly unposed often leads to the most genuine and heartwarming images. Instead of rigidly staging every detail, I prefer to set the scene and give the couples a simple prompt, allowing them to naturally interact and create a moment that is uniquely theirs. There’s a time and place for super posed pictures. Weddings are not that time.
For instance, I may ask the couple to walk toward me with their arms hitched, encouraging them to only look at each other. This simple prompt sets the stage for a genuine moment between the two. It's incredible to witness what happens when the couple is focused solely on each other, almost forgetting that I am there. Most of the time there’s laughter and the occasional tripping over each other.
This approach not only results in beautifully authentic photographs but also makes the entire photo shoot much more enjoyable for the couple. By turning the session into a playful game of charades rather than a formal photo shoot, the atmosphere becomes relaxed and fun. I’ve even had grooms tell me that they had fun! The couple's guard comes down, allowing their true connection to come out.
The beauty of unposed formals is that they tell a story. Remember, emotional storyteller here. Each image captures the raw emotions.
Ultimately, the art of creating unposed formals is about fostering an environment where the couple can be themselves, allowing their love and connection to naturally unfold in front of the camera. It's about capturing those unscripted, authentic moments that truly encapsulate the essence of their relationship.
