When I got an email from Nicole at Wolf Cove Inn about a surprise proposal happening that very day, my immediate thought was, "Oh hell yes!" Lucky for Curtis, I was available, and lucky for me, I absolutely love capturing these kinds of moments. I hopped on a call with Curtis that morning, and we devised a sneaky little plan—he and his girlfriend, Kylie, would do a "fun couples' photoshoot" so she'd be all camera-ready, totally unaware of the big moment ahead.

Fast forward to later that day, and I arrived at Wolf Cove Inn just as the sun started its slow descent—prime golden hour lighting. This was the kind of light photographers dream about, the kind that makes everything feel a little more cinematic. We kicked things off in the cover of the tall pines, where the golden light kissed the tops of their heads. I gave them some fun prompts—nose kisses, walking and bumping hips—to keep things playful and relaxed.

Then, it was go-time. I told Kylie to turn around, explaining that Curtis was going to run up behind her for a cute, candid moment. In reality, this was the code for Curtis to get down on one knee. Kylie stood there waiting, until she turned around to see what was taking him so long. And there he was, ring in hand, with that nervous-excited look that only someone proposing can pull off.

Cue the shocked expression, the gasp—she said "yes!" and they hugged, laughed, and admired the ring together. Just like that, this casual couples' session turned into an engagement session.

We spent the rest of the evening chasing the perfect light around the property, with the lake reflecting all the golden hues like something straight out of a painting. As the sun dipped lower, the wind picked up, sending snow swirling around them—it almost looked like fresh snowfall. The whole scene was just chef’s kiss perfection.

As the temperature dropped, we wrapped up, and I left absolutely buzzing with excitement to get these photos edited. There’s just something about being in on the surprise, capturing that pure, unfiltered joy, that makes proposals some of my absolute favorite moments to photograph. Curtis and Kylie, you nailed it. And Curtis, well played, sir. Well played.
