Cornish Maine Wedding Photographer // Why You Should Do An Engagement Session
I will tell my couples from the very first email that I will take any and every oppotunity to meet them face to face prior to their wedding day. That’s why from the very beginning of opening my business in 2015, I have offered complementary engagement sessions with most of my packages as an incentive to my clients to work with me prior to their wedding day. I’m super stoked that most of my couples take advantage of this! The ones that don’t typically have a good reason, like their Maine wedding is a destination wedding and they are just not going to be traveling here prior to their wedding! The couples that try to give me the excuse that they don’t like having their pictures taken or they are awkward in front of the camera, I try even harder to make them do an engagement session! There’s no better way than having a trial run to make my clients realize that having their pictures taken can actually be super fun!
Selfishly, I enjoy doing engagment sessions because I just enjoy photography and I’m happiest when I’m shooting. Obviously, right?!? Or you wouldn’t be here reading this right now. But, I also like to meet my couples, find out what works best for them and really just get to know them a little bit better. I love making my clients feel like friends and really establishing a relationship. I want them to feel comfortable with me and be able to ask for help with their wedding if needed! It really benefits both of us!
The flipside of that is, clients just are more comfortable with me on their wedding day if they have already had a photo session with me. Period. Trust me, I know that awkward look from the bride in the makeup chair when I enter the room for the first time on a wedding day. I get the “Oh shit, she’s here. What do I do with my face and hands” look when she is meeting me for the very first time. Instead, couples that have met me know what to expect. They know my weird sense of humor. And, most importantly, they have a better idea of what their wedding pictures are going to look like. Rememeber that hiring a photographer and their “brand” is all a part of the couple’s vision of their wedding day!
