Cornish Maine Wedding Photographer // Brittany & Nick // Portland, ME Elopement

I love winter weddings! So, I was pretty excited to be able to capture Brittany and Nick’s special day. Nick and Brittany had met years ago while Nick was working at a pizza restaurant. Britt joked with him calling him her “Pizza Daddy”. They went out on their first date at Gelato Fiasco and walked the Eastern Prom, talking for hours. They both felt as if they had known each other forever!

Fast forward a year, Nick proposed to Britt. I shouldn’t word it so simply because it was really an elaborate proposal. Nick had blindfolded Britt and drove her to the Eastern Prom where he had lit up the gazebo with hundreds of dangling white lights. Rose pedals and candles in the shape of hearts waited for her inside. Nick proposed and, obviously, Britt said yes. She cried while onlookers honked their horns and cheered! It really was the perfect proposal!

Nick and Britt decided to keep their wedding a bit more simple with a town hall elopement, dinner with their closest family members and special moments at the places in Maine that led them to their wedding.

The day had arrived and I met up with Brittany at the Airbnb that she was getting ready at. She had already had her makeup done. It was time for her daughter to get her fancy princess dress on. She was so cute. Brittany was next and got her dress on. And then, it was time for Nick to do a first look with his daughter. He came in and she was so surprised to see her daddy all dressed up. She was obsessed with his bowtie. It was so adorable! Then he went off to the Eastern Prom to wait for Brittany for their first look and vow reading. Brittany then did a quick first look with her dad. It was very emotional. She gave him a music box and they danced along to the music. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

Brittany, her dad and myself then jumped in the limo to go and meet up with Nick for their first look at the Eastern Prom. This being the place that Nick proposed to Brittany made this a very important part of their wedding day! We arrived and Brittany’s dad walked her up the the gazebo where Nick was facing the other direction. Brittany tapped Nick on the shoulder and he turned around. I always love to see the expressions on a groom’s face when he sees his bride for the first time and this was no exception.

After they had their amazing first look, they had decided to read their vows to each other instead of at the ceremony. I highly recommend all of my couples that do first looks do this. It’s always such a beautifully emotional and intimate moment. There were a lot of happy tears. It was really cute to watch their moment!

Next we were all off to Portland City Hall for a very brief wedding ceremony. I always forget how short these are. It was so cute. Brittany and Nick took turns holding their daughter while the clerk went through the ceremony. She watched as her mom and dad put their new wedding bands on each other.

Then we did a few quick portraits. I even got to recreate one of my favorite pictures that I had ever done years ago while we were there. Portland City Hall has the coolest staircase. If anyone ever elopes, I highly recommend doing it there just for the pictures!

We concluded the evening at Kette Cove as the sun was setting. There was the most spectacular light! It was just stunning! A little cold… but stunning! We walked the beach until there was no light left and then set up some lighting to be able to capture the perfect sunset. It was the perfect way to end a wedding!

I only have 2 openings left for this year! Contact me as soon as you have your date to check for availability!
