Cornish Maine Wedding & Newborn Photographer // Where Do You See Your Pictures In 5 Years?
During my consultations, I always ask my clients what they plan on doing with their pictures once they have them. Being a print photographer, obviously, the type of client that I attract wants to have some physical form of their pictures, not just the digitals. Most of my clients can tell me exactly where in their home their photos will be hung. They already have a gallery wall or are planning on starting one. My newborn clients hang their baby’s photos right in the nursery, as well as all over the house. Often, my clients create wall clusters, which is a beautiful way to display their art. But the bigger question is, where do you see your portraits in 5 years. Do you keep the same pictures up and add to them? Do you buy folios and change them out regularly? Do you get albums made on a regular basis to keep on display?
Not everyone is a wall art kinda person and that’s okay. I have plenty of clients who like the idea of having their pictures in albums or books. Personally, I’m both. I still go through my kid’s baby albums with them. I think it’s also good for them to see pictures in print and not just on their phones or computers. I love the idea of making new albums regularly of my family to look at all that we did that year. I’ve already sat with my kids and looked at our 2020 album. You know the year that we isolated for 2 weeks to “flatten the curve” and started schooling from home. That album will become more and more interesting as time goes by! I leave all my books and albums in places that are easily accessible and on display. It’s a constant reminder that they exist and they get a lot of usage that way. Plus, they are kinda pretty!
Let’s talk gallery walls. I know that this is not for everyone and not all people have the space in their homes for this, but I LOVE a good gallery wall! They don’t have to be cluttered. They can be very organized, displaying perfect rows of the same sized picture. Personally the one that I have in my home is huge and takes up a whole huge wall in my living room. I choose to have pictures from my kids birth to now. My kids are now 8 and 11, so there is a lot of pictures up there. I will sometimes swap out pictures, just to make sure that I have some current ones displayed as well. I mean, who wouldn’t lovey to see the “story” of their family prominently displayed in their home! That wall is one of the reasons why that is my favorite room in the house!
One of my most popular items that I sell is acrylic blocks. They are just what they sound like. They are literally a 5x7, 1 inch thick block of acrylic with your family’s picture in it. They are super pretty and stand on their own, so they can literally be put anywhere in your home or work. Clients typically order a few of these per session because of their versatility and, of course, just how beautifully they display your pictures! I’ve gone into return client’s homes and seen a table where all of their acrylics are displayed, old and new. They often tell me that they still have ones at their desk at work too! They really are stunning!
There are endless ways to display your family’s pictures like the high end gallery art pieces that they are. To me, it’s important to have your family’s visual story in some physical form. Why not make it beautiful at the same time!
