Cornish Maine Wedding Photographer // James & Augusta's Peaks Island Wedding // TEIA

James and Augusta met over 5 years ago through mutual friends. They didn’t get together right away after meeting. Augusta thought that he was cute, but it would be two more years before the pieces really started to come together. They would bump into each other at pub trivia nights, or at the occasional party/ fantasy football game. Over time their relationship grew.

James grew up vacationing on Peaks Island with his family. Over the years, Peaks became a special place to him and he started to bring Augusta there for trips as well. While dating, they had made many trips to Peaks Island and Augusta fell in love with it as well. So much that they invited Augusta’s family to vacation there with them for a week last summer. Augusta didn’t think much of this, other than it would be the first time their families would be meeting. She was oblivious to the fact that James was about to propose.

James had originally planned on proposing at their favorite brewery, but got nervous and chickened out. They jumped back in their car and decided to head to the Eastern Prom for a walk. It was raining, but Augusta agreed regardless. That’s where on a park bench, James finally built up the nerve to propose. Augusta obviously said yes! They spent the rest of the week celebrating with their families on Peaks Island.

It only made sense that James and Augusta were to hold their wedding on Peaks Island, Maine. The weather was absolutely perfect. I had taken the brief ferry ride from Portland to Peaks, where I would first be joining the Augusta and her girls. They were getting ready in a beautiful seaside cottage. The atmosphere was completely calm as Augusta and her closest friends and family got ready for her wedding. Hair and makeup had already begun. We all laughed and joked as the girls go ready. I grabbed all the detail shots, including a dress hanger that had James and Augusta’s cat’s face on it! It was absolutely hilarious. It really shows what kind of sense of humor that both James and Augusta have!

Then it was off to the boys cottage. The guys were getting ready at a cottage just a few minutes down the road from Augusta’s. When I arrived, all of the guys were just hanging around outside in the sun drinking beer. They were telling stories of their younger years and joking around. (Literally, the most laid back couple!) James went inside and finished getting ready, then resumed his beer drinking outside.

Back at the girls cottage, the bridesmaids had gotten on their dresses. It was now Augusta’s turn to put on her dress. Augusta’s mother and sister-in-law helped zip and button. Just as they had finished buttoning her up, Augusta’s dad came in and saw her in her dress for the first time. It was such a wonderful unintended first look! She then put on her jewelry. James had written a letter for Augusta to read prior to the ceremony, so she took a quick minute to read it after she was all dressed. Then, Augusta quickly brushed her teeth and we we off to TEIA, where the ceremony and reception was to happen!

After a quick golf cart ride, we arrived at TEIA. The venue was amazing. The tables were set with muted linens and handcrafted oyster shells at each place setting. The ceremony site was kept simple with rustic wooden chairs and beautiful flower arrangements at the end of the aisle.

James and Augusta chose to have their siblings officiate their wedding. It added an amazing personal touch to their ceremony. Augusta’s brother and James’ sister kept the audience captivated by telling stories about their siblings during their younger years.

After a small glass of champagne and some golf cart shenanigans, the party began. Augusta and James had the best first dance. They had both warned me ahead of time that neither one of them were “dancers”, so not to expect too much. But they both clearly had fun with their dance.

We waited until after dinner at sunset, to do Augusta and James’ pictures. I’m so glad that we waited. The sky had a line of red right under the fog. It was so pretty. James and Augusta are just two people that are super goofy and make each other laugh really easily, so doing their portraits was very easy for me! We walked the beach in front of TEIA making use of the rocky shoreline and docks.

When we got back inside it was time for the band to open the dance floor. Every one of their guests had a great time. The dance floor was packed! Their wedding day could not have gone any better!
