Maine Maternity Photographer // Erica & Joe// Ferry Beach, Scarborough

Every so once in awhile, the stars aline and the weather knows exactly what my vision is for a session. This was the case with Erica & Joe’s maternity session. Erica and I had started our conversation about a month prior to her session. I love that she also had a vision for her session and it was pretty much the same as mine!

Erica knew that she wanted to have her session at the beach. I ran my “go-to’s” by her to see if any would fit what she was lookin for. We had talked a bit about sunset and with the way the coastline faces here in Maine, that’s not always easy to shoot towards the water with the sunset in the background. This limited our options, but Erica had the idea to shoot at Ferry Beach. It’s in a cove, so it faces the proper direction to get the stunning sunset. It was also a “cleaner” beach with less people there.

Me and my lighting assistant (my son) showed up just as golden hour had started. The sky was already starting to turn pink. Erica and Joe are having a girl, so this works on so many levels!

We started by doing some quick pictures facing the ocean. Even 1 hour out from sunset the sky was amazing! Erica & Joe had also brought along their adorable pug named Lola. Lola is the cutest little dog. She greeted everyone she saw on the beach and was super well behaved for her pictures.

Next, we headed over to the rocks on Ferry Beach. The lighting was just perfect. Of course I also added my own to to accentuate the lighting from the sky. Lola followed behind Erica and Joe as they walked along the beach. This series of pictures is, by far, my favorite from the evening.

Erica had her own quick photoshoot with just her. I think that its always important to grab a few of just mom. I made these a little more dramatic with lighting to really show off that bump.

After a quick outfit change, we slowly made our way back to the parking lot. At this point, the sky had started to look like it was on fire! It was crazy. I have not had such an amazing sunset at a session in a long time!

Overall, this session reignited my love for maternity sessions! Honestly, I can’t wait for my next one!
