Cornish, Maine Wedding Photographer // Sydney & Thomas // Portland Engagement Session

Hey, hey! It’s engagement season. You know what that means. I get to meet more of my 2023 wedding couples!

Sydney & Thomas met in high school. As with many couples, they started off as friends. After a few years, they decided to give it a shot as boyfriend and girlfriend. Eight years after their relationship began, Thomas proposed. They both feel very fortunate to be marrying their best friend!

Sydney and Thomas had a very classic proposal. Their “dating” anniversary is on December 23rd. This past year they decided to go to their favorite restaurant and to dress up. Thomas was insistent on the dressing up thing. They had been to this restaurant before and had never dressed nice before, so Sydney was very curious! She was definitely hoping for a proposal!

At the restaurant, they ate dinner and left. So, obviously, Sydney thought that the proposal wasn't happening that night! When they were leaving, they ran into some friends in the parking lot. Which was very strange to Sydney. Thomas ran back into the restaurant pretending that he had forgotten something. He came back out, got on one knee and asked her to marry him! Even though Sydney had suspected it, the proposal was still a surprise.

Sydney and Thomas contacted me after beginning the planning process for their October wedding. We talked out their engagement shoot and decided that we would have it around the holidays when they would be able to visit.

We decided upon the Old Port for the photoshoot. I personally love the Old Port because it has a little bit of everything (old buildings, the ocean and art). We started on Wharf Street as I typically do. The cobblestone street gave an amazing backdrop for the first few pictures. Sydney and Thomas laughed and talked as we took some pictures. We found some old doorways to use as well.

Next it was off to the water. The sky started to turn pink and purple. And the sun peeked out from the buildings. We took full advantage of how the beautiful the evening was turning out to be! We walked down to a very small beach that’s tucked away at the end of a parking lot. We went from cityscape to beach real fast. It was perfect! I loved having some diversity to their pictures!

I had so much fun at their engagement session. I can’t wait for their fall wedding!
