Cornish Maine Wedding Photographer // Kendall & Rick // Newry, Maine

Each wedding holds its own unique charm, but Kendall and Rick's wedding in Newry was truly extraordinary. Despite the looming threat of a hurricane, their special day turned into a remarkable and perfect day. Mother Nature definitely decided to add her own twist to their love story.

With plans originally set for an outdoor ceremony and reception, Kendall and Rick envisioned a day filled with natural beauty. However, the whims of Mother Nature had a different plan in store. As luck would have it, Newry found itself on the edge of a hurricane. Thankfully, rain remained at bay, but the gusty winds posed a formidable challenge. Determined to make the most of the situation, the couple made a quick decision to keep the ceremony outside while moving the reception indoors.

In the midst of the hurricane's approach, Kendall found solace and excitement as she prepared for her wedding day. Up in the cozy upstairs suite of the Airbnb, surrounded by the laughter and warmth of Rick's daughters, Kendall got her hair and makeup done. Meanwhile, the catering team worked diligently to ensure a delicious dinner, while Rick lent a helping hand in moving everything from the tent to the shelter of the house. Kendall's mother and her "bonus" mom, assisted her in slipping into her wedding gown.

Undeterred by the blustery winds, Kendall and Rick stood hand in hand at the outdoor ceremony. With Kendall's sister officiating the proceedings and heartfelt passages read by Rick's daughter and Kendall's mother, they braved the wind. Against all odds, they sealed their commitment with a heartfelt kiss.

Following the ceremony, cocktail hour provided an opportunity for me to capture the family formals and a few mini family portrait sessions (one of the perks of having a small wedding with extra time built into the timeline). As everyone settled indoors for dinner, the atmosphere transformed into one of a large family dinner, which is essentially it was!

As the evening progressed, the skies opened up, revealing a breathtaking sunset with hues of pink and purple. With the wind still gusting, Kendall and Rick embraced the moment and we did all of their formals against that perfect backdrop.

Kendall and Rick's wedding in Newry will forever be etched in my brain as one of my hurricane weddings. While Mother Nature had her own plans, the day went off without a hitch. They embraced the unexpected and made the best of their day with one hell of a story to tell!
