Cornish, Maine Newborn Photographer // Ledger // Baby Photoshoot
These pictures really do just speak for themselves. Ledger is the cutest little guy. He slept like a dream or like any second child does! He even tolerated me dressing him up like a deer for his session. Which I don’t know if I would have permitted such an embarrassing situation.
I’ve photographed Ledger’s family many times over the past year or so. They’ve had some pretty amazing things happen to their little family recently. Last February Ledger’s mom and dad got married and I was fortunate enough to be the one to capture their perfect Portland City elopement. Then there’s the obvious, Brittany got pregnant. We did not one, but 2 different maternity sessions. The first, Brittany really wanted to really focus on the whole family not just her growing bump, so we went to Kettle Cove for some perfect golden hour light. Then she joined me in the studio for a little her time. This time, it was all about the bump. But, of course, this time it was all about the kids. (I would never leave an older sibling out!)
On this particular morning, Ledger’s family met me at the studio. He was snoozing a way all cozy in his car seat. Big sister, Isla, helped me unwedge him from is cocoon of blankets and started to get him ready for the festivities. Unfortunately, that means having to make him just a little cranky to get him all swaddled up again. He woke up and mom fed him just enough to keep him sleepy.
We started with taking pictures with his big sister and him. I knew that she would be a good helper so it would make it just a little easier on Ledger. Isla snuggled with her little brother and showed me how she liked to hold him while I took their pictures. She was so gentle for a toddler holding a baby. Trust me, I’ve seen some crazy stuff. I’ve just come to the conclusion that newborns don’t know any different so they are a bit more reception to the “loving” touch of a toddler!
Then it was Ledger’s moment to shine. I reswaddled him as I put him in my first solo set up. Once he was in the basket I put the little deer hat on him. He was so comfortable that he started snoozing. I always shoot the most of my first setup as a safety net. So I did as much variation as I could and then the ever so important detail shots and got him set for the second setup.
This time I stuck with something a little more neutral, a little grey hat in a bucket. And he still slept! This guy was out! It wasn’t until I transitioned him to the padded mat to do some shots of him on his back that he decided that he didn’t like me anymore! Not really. He fussed and then started to sleep and then fussed and then slept….. In between the fussing, I managed to get a few great shots, some awake and some sleepy. Either way, I loved what I had come up with!
Then I was off to get the whole family involved! I only did a few as both Isla and Ledger were ready for some food and a good nap. I didn’t want to make anyone mad at me! We got a few really good ones. Overall, this session was amazing!
I love watching the families that I photograph grow. I can’t wait to see these guys all again in the future!
