Maine & NH Wedding and Engagement Photographer // Why Foss Mountain is My Favorite Engagement Session Location
When it comes to choosing the perfect location for an engagement session, Foss Mountain in New Hampshire holds a special place in my heart. Spanning spring, summer, and fall, this spot never fails to deliver breathtaking backdrops and unforgettable moments for couples.
Foss Mountain is renowned for its 360-degree mountain views. Whether the session is in spring (when it can still be a little brown and blah), summer’s lush greenery, or fall's fiery hues, the scenery is always jaw-dropping. Add in the perfect golden light as the sun dips below the horizon, and you have a recipe for some amazing! Oh, and the sunsets? Truly next-level.
One of my favorite things about Foss Mountain is the constant breeze—or, on some days, full-on wind. While it might seem like a challenge and I know that couples don’t always look at this as a good thing at the time, it adds a touch of movement to every photo. Flowing hair, fluttering dresses, and a sense of motion give the images an almost cinematic quality.
Tips for Your Engagement Session at Foss Mountain
1. Dress for the Terrain
The hike up to Foss Mountain is manageable and short, but sturdy shoes are a must. You can change into more formal footwear once we reach the top.
2. Prepare for the Breeze
Embrace the wind! Flowy outfits photograph beautifully in the breeze. Lightweight fabrics like chiffon or silk can add a dreamy, romantic feel to your images.
3. Bring Layers
Even in summer, it can get chilly at the summit with the wind especially when the sun starts to set. A cozy blanket or jacket can keep you warm between shots—and make for a great photo prop!
4. Time It Right
Sunset sessions are my favorite here. The golden light during the last hour of daylight creates a soft, warm glow that’s perfect for capturing the magic of your connection.
5. Pack Light
We’ll need to hike to the top, so bring only the essentials. A small backpack for water, touch-up makeup, and a change of clothes is ideal.
Foss Mountain isn’t just a location; it’s an experience that combines natural beauty, adventure, and a touch of romance. This is what makes it one of my favorite locations to shoot. If you’re looking for an engagement session with stunning views this spot has it all.
